Stories

Every woman and every girl inspires us. We are deeply grateful to those who have shared their stories about breakthroughs in their lives, the ways in which they have overcome fears, beliefs, or events that once kept them from connecting with their inner strength and recognizing their amazingness. Some of these stories are stories of pain and how a women or girl triumphed over it. As you read these stories, rather than focusing on the pain, choose to focus instead on the triumph and the ways that others have overcome what may once have seemed impossible to overcome. Let's celebrate their triumphs!

Running for Post Traumatic Growth

My name is Bunny, like a rabbit, but I am more commonly known as “Ally’s Mom.” Being Ally’s Mom is both an honor and a challenge, as she is exceptionally bright…and equally headstrong. At the end of school last year Ally announced...

I Am Free

I struggled for years in my marriage. There was no physical abuse. There were no fights, no yelling or screaming. There was apathy, and my attempts to discuss the state of our marriage were always shut down as soon as I initiated the...

Turbo

In my third season as a coach with Girls on the Run (GOTR), I met McKenna. She marched to the beat of her own drum, unleashing her unique, creative and occasionally – but unintentionally – inappropriate sense of humor at every turn...

The story of GOTR WORCESTER and ME

I’d like to start my story by sharing a little bit about myself and my reasons for wanting to share this great program of Girls on the Run with every person I have ever met. It is all I talk about! I’ve been married to the most amazing man...

Tales from the Back

I am not a runner. In fact, running is very far outside my wheelhouse and something I tend to emphasize when people say they can’t coach or join GOTR because they don’t run. I remind them it’s not about the running, it’s about the...

Star Power

Star Power Being a Girl on the Run is so much fun Because we learn and dream and live and run When I am having a bad day, I look up and say, “My star power is covered. There are clouds in the way!” What do I do when I’m stressed or...

Overcoming Obstacles

Girls on the Run is a wonderful program for girls for empowerment and inspiration. My little sister was involved with Girls on the Run and participated in the 5k runs. She needed a running buddy and I was unable to join as her buddy due to my...

I Learned Anything is Possible Because I Ran...

It was my second season of coaching. We called all of our parents to let them know what to bring to practice and when it was starting. My co-coach said one of the parents had warned her that they were making their daughter do this and that she...

Getting my groove back

Girls on the Run entered my life at a time when I didn’t realize I needed it, or was looking for it. On my daughter’s last day of school in 2016, I received a call from my doctor telling me that I needed to see an oncologist. As it turned...

A Painted Idea

The spring 2017 Laurel Elementary GOTR team beautified the school this season for their community service project. The previous spring team planted the seed and had brainstormed the idea. I worked on allowing their idea to bloom the following...
