Dedication: TO WOMEN EVERYWHERE
Trigger warning: Before reading this post, please be aware that it contains a reference to rape.
My story starts when as a girl I was not encouraged to succeed. But I was an A+ STUDENT. ALSO A REALLY GOOD artist 🎨. In HS a large newspaper tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to work on ads and layouts. I earned a 4 year art scholarship. My family was not impressed.
I decided after graduation to be a Court Reporter and it was pressure but I loved it. I ate lunch with the attorneys and judges. We also had fun parties.
Then I married and it was a guy i knew for 3 years & met at church but was abusive. I left before my 1st child was born n lived with my family. He then raped me and I had a 2nd child. Then threatened my family.
We made the decision as acfamily to move from the East Coast to the Midwest.
Job offers didn’t pay enough. So I would go to a second job after I played and tucked my kids into
bed.
I finally got a better paying job and became the only female executive.
Men did not like having a woman in their midst. But I persevered and went on to earn a Degree in Marketing and in Communications.
But instead of the great Jon offer I waiting for me, I ventured into R.E. I built some townhouses and opened a R.E. office. As I started going with my clients to obtain mortgages, it wasn’t long before I discovered that I knew more than many lenders. So parttime I worked for a Mortgage Company, In no time I was ready to start my own Mortgage Company, and continued renovation of apartment buildings.
Yes, a busy schedule, but my calendar included family time and trips. Wonderful experiences.
I was very close to my kids; however, my daughter was at-home and didn’t marry until she was 25. HOW WONDERFUL THAT WAS. We continued to be close, even after she moved to another state.
About that time I met the most wonderful, kind, loving, caring man. He offered his help so we would have time together, trips, friends, and family visits.
The best thing I ever did was starting my own businesses.
I had a profession, not a job. I worked into my 70s and slowed down a little 44 years in total.
My husband was creative and we often could be found painting together, playing games learned as we got older.
So not only did I have a wonder career but a wonderful life.
No my parents never acknowledged my success just my younger brother… who was a poor student, but some how made it thru college and from verybyoing age had the freedom to follow his dream.
Actually none of my art work survived. So I am now free to work on my art. My husband never painted but as an interior decorator I knew he would be good n often surprised me with his skill.
So young or middle age, don’t be afraid. Jump on with both feet, treat people well and ypu yoo can be a success
